Malletmen Reverse
Early Loss To Yale

By Steve Giannini
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

Yale's Intercollegiate champs
met some stiff competition from
Virginia's malletmen and were
edged 5-3 by the ball controlling
Cavaliers.

Cavalier horseman Ray Norden
was the first to knock the ball
between the posts, displaying his
fine style which has earned him a
rating of one goal.

Immediately afterwards, the Elis
struck back on a goal by Bill Brown
who owns a rating of zero goals
(which is a rating), and the first
chukkar ended in a 1-1 tie.

From here Virginia took over.
First-year man Rob Rhinehart turned
in a fine performance as he
scored twice to put the Cavaliers
ahead at intermission, 3-1. The Elis
star player, Alan Harris, had fallen
off his mount during the chukkar
but was not hurt and play was not
stopped because the other players
were down the field.

During the first half Yale had
been having trouble getting the ball
into their territory to take shots at
the goal. There was no advantage to
either club in penalty shots.
Virginia's Rhinehart had some
trouble in the second chukkar,
missing a couple of dribbling shots
close to the goal. John Cutler, who
had three goals against Farmington,
did not score in the first half and
consequently Darrel Banks came in
for him in the second half.

Going into the third chukkar,
Yale's pivot man, Alan Harris,
currently rated at two goals,
brought his team to within one on a
straight shot close to the goal.
Virginia failed to score and the
chukkar ended with the score at
3-2.

Ray Norden pushed Virginia
ahead with two goals in the fourth
chukkar, one on a penalty shot, and
ended the Cavaliers scoring at
5-2.

With time running out the Elis
could not mount an aggressive
attack and after Bill Brown got his
second tally of the afternoon, the
game ended with Virginia on top,
5-3, and still undefeated in the
spring season.

At the halftime of the game the
raffle drawing was held and the
smaller prize was awarded to
Adams no. 66. He can claim the
prize by contacting any member of
the Polo Club.

Next Sunday at Brook Hill Farm
the Cavalier horsemen will be
entertaining the University of Pennsylvania
