Intramural roundballers had
another gala evening under the
lights in friendly Memorial
Gymnasium. The old high school
heroes bombed the hoop time and
again in a bid to reach the top of
the High Point competition.
Three squads remained
undefeated in Division A as the
basketball eliminations concluded
round three. Sigma Chi ripped
Delta Sig, 47-32, to share first place
honors with Beta and Phi Gam.
Harry Wilson bagged 11 points for
the winners, and Lee Thornton
picked up nine for Delta Sig.
Beta remained on the list of the
unbeatens downing Sigma Phi by a
score of 52-28. Windy Bill pumped
in 17 points for his league-leading
team, and Jim Cox score nine in a
losing effort.
SAE led Division B action
whipping AEPi to remain
undefeated. Larry Malesco of SAE
topped all scorers with 20 points
while Steve Schiff managed six for
AEPi. Joe Ferens led the high
scoring DKEs to a 68-49 triumph
over KA. Larry Gates accounted for
15 points of the KA tally, while
Ferens poured in 21.
Chi P dropped Theta Chi,
29-26, in a hard-fought defensively
oriented struggle. In another close
game, St. A bowed to Sigma Pi,
27-25. Bob Hine's seven points was
not enough to overcome the Sigma
Pi five, sparked by an eight point
effort from Alex McDougal.
ATO tops the slate in Division C
tripping ZBT, 51-43. Russ Kirk was
good for 17 points for ATO, and
Dan Rubin netted 12 for the Zebes.
Phi Delt dumped DU, 47-43,
behind Bruce Cogwill's 14 points
and Learned Barfy's 13 points. Bob
Poole tallied ten for DU.
Nick Acheson's 12 point burst
sparked Kappa Sig to a 39-32
victory over St. Elmo. Rick Morgan
led the Elmo scoring with 12
points. SPE rolled past Chi Phi
45-35. George Wall picked up 19
points for SPE, and Bob Henderson
collected 15 of the Chi Phi 35 point
total.
Memorial Gym was also the site
for the exciting Foul Shooting
competition. In the first round of
the tourney, eliminations were
conducted on a basis of a
percentage of foul shots made out
of 30 attempts. The second round
consisted of the highest percentages
from 15 shots, and the remaining
ten finalists competed on the basis
of consecutive foul shots. Bob
Henderson of Chi Phi took top
honors, successfully hitting seven
straight from the charity stripe.
Foul Shooting — Results
1. Henderson — Chi Phi — 7
2. Buck — Phi Gam — 6
3. Adams — DKE — 5
4. Smith — Sigma Chi — 4
5. Glenn — Sigma Chi — 3
6. Cooper — Theta Delt — 2
7. Reibel — Phi P — 1
8. Yates — Sigma Chi — 1

For those who dare to risk their
good health in the puddle pool in
downstairs Memorial Gym, the IM
swimming tournament is to
commence on March 3 with the
first of the preliminary heats.
