For the first time the Atlantic
Coast Conference has selected an all
conference soccer team. The team
is led by Mario Jelencovich,
Maryland's All-American goalie,
and the most valuable player in the
NCAA tournament in which the
Terrapins tied for the
Championship with Michigan State.
Maryland also placed Melih Sensoy
and Giancarlo Brandoni as
halfbacks; and Roco Morelli, Alvaro
Bittencourt, and Larry Ruhs as
forwards on the all star team.
Fullback John Gussenhoven,
halfback James Canfield, and
forward Mark Packard were chosen
from second place North Carolina.
Ron Rock, a fullback from
N.C.State, and Mark Rubich, a
forward from Clemson round out
the team, which was selected by the
coaches at their annual meeting

The Spirit Club has elected new
officers for the 1969 school year.
The new president is Pete Schmidt,
a defensive halfback on the football
team. Also elected were Dickie
Payne, vice president, John
Bakhaus, secretary, and Jack
Rhoades, Treasurer.

The swimming team travels to
Durham Monday to put their 5-1
mark on the line against the Duke
Blue Devils. Coach Law should be
relying heavily on distance
swimmer Alex Shaw and divers Jay
Wainright and Steve Remine against
the Duke team which has posted a
2-5 record thus far this season.

O.J. Simpson, Southern
California's phenomenal running
back, has been selected as man of
the year by Sport Magazine. In
addition, a top performer in each
field of sport was tapped at the
annual awards ceremony. Among
those outstanding athletes was
Arthur Ashe, selected as the
outstanding tennis player for 1968.
