The Associated Press poll has
joined Mr. Litkenhous in
recognition of the Wahoos. The
week's AP rankings show that the
Virginia football team did receive
votes for inclusion in the nation's
top twenty teams. Although the
intrepid sports writer has made no
enlightening statement concerning
this poll, he must have some reason.
The Cavaliers are averaging
303.3 yards per game on the
ground as compared with second
place N. C. State's average of 191.8
yards. In rushing defense, the
Wahoos have held their opponents
to 76.7 yards, while the second
place team, Clemson, is averaging
only 124.7 in the same category.
In scoring offense, the Cavaliers
have amassed some 94 points in
three games for a 31.1 average.
Second place South Carolina has
produced 19.7 points a game.
Frank Quayle, Chuck Mooser,
and Warren Muir of South Carolina
are tied for the ACC lead in scoring,
each with four touchdowns for 24
points. Jimmy Lacey, the
Cavayearlings' 163 pound halfback,
is ahead of all of them with five
TDs in only two games.
