Notes
The films from the Purdue game
have shown that the Virginia front
four, in coordination with the
linebacking crew, did an
outstanding job on the Purdue
offensive line, and a fine job in
containing QB Mike Phipps. The
Boilermaker game plan, apparently,
had assessed this situation
completely, thus the resultant flair
and flip passes to Leroy Keys and
flanker Stan Brown. Eventually the
middle was opened up for two long
shots to tight end Bob Dillingham.
Keys was contained reasonably
on the ground (11-58) but respect
for his running cost the Cavaliers a
touchdown on the option-run pass.
He completed two passes, including
a 12 yarder for a TD, bringing his
career totals to 10 completions in
15 attempts, six for touchdowns.
Attendance at Purdue for the
opening game was 60,384.
Hunter Richards averaged 34.1
yards per punt in his first game for
the Varsity.
