Notes
There will be a meeting for first
year lacrosse players tonight at 7
p.m. in Memorial Gym. This
meeting will be followed at 8 p.m.
by a meeting of all returning varsity
lacrosse players. Coach Buddy
Beardmore requests all to be
present and on time.
Sports Cat racing buffs should
note the advertisements in the
Cavalier Daily for the nationals race
September 28 and 29 at Danville,
Virginia. Formula Vees will be the
main attraction.
In the preliminaries last
Saturday before the Varsity's
scrimmage, the University's first
year team faced a tough Fork
Union squad. Neither team was able
to cross the others goal.
New Freshman Coach Tom
Fletcher said he was pleased with
the work of his three outstanding
quarterbacks, Mike Cubbage, Larry
Albert, and Bobbie Gustafason. All
three also got a shot at defensive
play and performed well.
The work of Gary Helman as a
running back and linebacker was
also noted by Fletcher. Other
offensive backs who showed
potential were Greg Dickerhoof,
Jimmy Laccy and Joe Smith.
Tommy Viar, All-Valley District
from Albemarle High School, and
offensive center and linebacker
with the Freshmen, suffered a
broken right leg. It is doubtful he
will see any more action during the
1968 season.
