New Coaches Hired
For Virginia Staff

By Chad Ballard

Three new coaches were named
to the Virginia coaching staff for
this year. These coaches are a new
freshman football coach, freshman
basketball coach, and varsity
wrestling coach.

Replacing Mike Caruso as head
wrestling coach is George Edwards
of Penn State University. Coach
Edwards comes to the University
with impressive credentials, having
been wrestling captain at Shamokin
Area High School during his junior
and senior years.

Edwards attended Penn State
from 1960-1964. During his junior
and senior years he compiled a 27-2
record, while finishing fifth in the
Intercollegiate Wrestling
Tournament in his senior year.
Edwards received his degree in
physical education and upon
graduation took over the duties as
assistant varsity coach and head
freshman coach of wrestling at
Penn State.

Richard DiBiaso has replaced
Chip Conner as freshman basketball
coach. DiBiaso lettered in
basketball and baseball at Monessen
High School in Monessen, Pa. He
attended Mansfield State where he
was captain of the basketball team
in his senior year. While at
Mansfield, his team compiled an
85-15 record, and he set records
that still stand in rebounding and
scoring.

Upon his graduation from
Mansfield DiBiaso coached and
taught at Beacon High School in
Beacon, New York where his record
in both varsity and junior varsity
competition was 131-15.

DiBiaso has also had an article
on basketball published in "Coach
and Athlete."

Thomas Fletcher is the new
freshman football coach. Last
season Fletcher was a graduate
assistant with the football team.

During his years at St. Paul High
School, in St. Paul Va. he lettered
in football, basketball, baseball, and
track. Following his graduation,
Fletcher attended Hampton
Sydney College where he lettered
four times in both football and
baseball. He received his BS in
Political Science and was placed on
the Dean's List several times.
