Led by Paul Samanchick, the
Virginia golfers topped RPI in
action last week by a total score
of 462 to the Richmond team's
520. Samanchick was medalist for
the Cavaliers with a fine round
of 70 at Keswick. Four of Virginia's
six men were under 80
for the day.
Bob Weir, coach of the Alumni
team for the annual spring football
game, hopes to institute
several changes to promote increased
interest in next year's
game. His proposals are to lower
ticket prices to $1 to draw more
students, to place all seniors on
the offensive team regardless of
what position they play this fall,
and to practice for a week prior
to the game. He also hopes to
import a team from Sweet Briar
to play in the Powder Puff contest.
Around the ACC, Steve Bryant,
Virginia outfielder, stands sixth in
the Conference with a .344 batting
average. Teammate Joel DeBoe is
tenth at .337. N. C. State leads
the loop with a 10-3 mark. The
Virginia Golf team ranks second in
the ACC with a 4-2 conference
record.
