Football
Coach
Honored

Head Football Coach George
Blackburn has been named to two
American Football Coaches Association
committees. He will serve
on both the Rules Committee and
the Major College All-American
Selection Committee for District
Three.

He will serve on the Rules
Committee with Frank Howard of
Clemson and Vito Ragasso of
VMI. The other members of the
Selection Committee are Paul
Dietzel of South Carolina and
Tom Harp of Duke.

The appointment to these committees
is quite a tribute of Coach
Blackburn and his football background.
He has served as head
coach at three schools during his
long career, and has served under
some of the top names in football,
namely Colonel Earl H. Blaik
at Army, Bill Elias at Virginia,
and Sid Gilman now of the San
Diego Chargers.

He has put his experience to
good use at the University since
becoming the head coach in 1965.
Twice since then the Cavaliers
have finished in the first division
of the ACC to mark the highest
positions Virginia has ever reached
in ACC football.
