Phi Gam Defeats St.A In IM Action

By Sandy Prater
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

A last minute surge by Phi
Gam was successful in turning
back St. A in the feature High
Point League basketball game
Tuesday night.

Big guns for Phi Gam were Rick
Brand and Dave Nardi. Brand
scored 12 points to lead all scorers,
and Nardi sank two clutch free
throws in the closing seconds of
the game. The 27-26 victory for
Phi Gam upped its record for the
season to 3-0 as St. A dropped
to 2-1.

In a definite mismatch, Zete
rolled up a lopsided 73-21 victory
over Theta Chi, with Peter Schmidt
and Gene Arnette scoring 16 points
each.

In an equally one-sided win,
DKE crushed Sigma Alpha, 71-22.
Leading the offense for the powerful
DKE contingent were Joe
Ferens and Saint Lee, who scored
39 points between them.

Dywer McClung and Drew
Scheele were instrumental in the
Phi Psi victory over Phi Delt. The
37-35 squeaker keeps Phi Psi's
undefeated skein at three wins.

Also remaining undefeated in
League play is ATO which dumped
Sigma Phi 39-32, behind Rick
Dygve's 17 points, and Chi Phi,
which last week rolled up an impressive
win over Zete, racked up
its third victory over Delta Sig,
33-24.

PEP had little difficulty in disposing
of Phi Sig 50-26, as Bill
Greenburger poured in 21 points
in the winning cause.

George Mason's '13 points
weren't enough for St. Elmo, as
Sigma Pi scored its first victory
of the season, 43-37, and Sigma
Chi triumphed easily over TKE,
56-28, behind Jeff Porter's 16
points.
