In Weekend Action

New York University will be the
first round opponent of the Cavalier
basketballers in the 7 p.m.
opener of the Virginia-Virginia
Tech Invitational Basketball Tournament
Saturday night, December
17, at University Hall.

On hand for the second half
of the night's double-header will
be Yale to oppose VPI. All four
teams will then travel to Blacksburg
to determine the tournament
winner and consolation champ,
Monday night.

Tickets are now on sale for the
tourney. Prices begin at $3.00 for
reserve seats, and $2.50 for
entrance to the grand stand.

University students will be able
to gain admittance by virtue of
their student cards, and junior high
and high school students will
be charged $1.00.

The tournament promises to be
an interesting one. New York University
should once again field a
strong team. Coach Lou Rossini
has guided his Violets to 148
victories out of 228 games, and his
teams have appeared in seven post
season tournaments in the last
nine years.

The Violets are 2-2 for the
season, with wins over Hunter
College and Texas and losses to
Seton Hall and Columbia.

Tech has suffered two tough
losses to perennially powerful
Duke and North Carolina, and
Yale provides a mystic, unknown
quality to the tourney.
