Frank Quayle Rests On Sideline In Maryland Game

Quayle, Greg Shelly Made All-ACC Football Team

Frank Quayle led the Cavaliers
in the annual post-season all-star
derby this year. The versatile halfback
was named to the all-ACC
backfield and finished fourth in
the balloting for the Conference's
Player of the Year award.

Named with Quayle to the ACC
squad was tackle Greg Shelly of
Soudertown, Pennsylvania, the
only third-year man among the
honored offensive linemen. Shelly
was one of the big factors in the
resurgence of the Wahoo running
attack. The coaches never graded
him at less than 80 efficiency
in the post-game review of the
films.

Quayle did everything for the
Cavaliers this year. In addition
to his running talents, he led the
team in pass receptions, points
scored, and blocked effectively
when called upon. He trailed Gore
of Clemson and NC State's Dennis
Byrd and Gerald Warren in the
competition for the award won
last year by Bob Davis.

Second year defensive end Al
Sinesky copped Conference honors
with his performance in the classroom
as well as on the gridiron.
Sinesky's 3.0 average in his premed
program earned him a
position on the eleven man ACC
academic All-Conference team.

Conference leaders Clemson and
North Carolina State each placed
six men on the 23-man squad.
Representing the Wolfpack were
end Harry Martell, guard Norman
Cates, kicker Gerald Warren, defensive
end Mark Capuano, tackle
Dennis Byrd, and safety Freddie Combs.

Clemson's Tigers placed, in addition
to Buddy Gore, tackle
Wayne Mass, guard Harry Olszewski,
defensive end Ronnie Duckworth,
linebacker Jim Catoe, and
cornerback Frank Liberatore.

Rounding out the squad were
Rick Decker of Wake at end,
center Mike Murphy of Duke,
fullback Warren Muir, tackle Don
Somma and linebacker Tom Bice
of South Carolina, quarterback
Fred Summers of Wake, Duke's
Bob Foyle at middle guard, and
Carolina's Jack Davenport at
safety.
