Homecoming Foe Duke Led By Calabrese, Davis

Virginia will be host to Duke
this Saturday for the 1967 Homecoming
game. Both teams won last
week with Virginia defeating Wake
Forest 14-12, and Duke upending
highly rated Army 10-7. Army
delivered the only defeat the Cavaliers
have suffered this season.

Jay Calabrese, All-ACC and pre-season
All-America candidate, will
once again pose the major threat
to the Wahoo defense. At fullback,
Calabrese has gained 1237 yards
and scored 114 points in the past
two years.

Quarterback Davis has been described
by the news media as
"dangerous" both in running and
passing. The Duke defense held
high-scoring Army to seven points
and has given up an average of
less than eleven points a game this
season.

The Virginia team enters the
game with a feeling of vengeance
over and above the normal Homecoming
spirit, for no one on the
present squad has participated in
a Duke defeat. The last Virginia
victory in the series came in
1958, when the Wahoos tallied 15
points to the opponents' 12.

The fine showing of the ground
attack in the Wake Forest game
coupled with the passing ability evident
throughout the season gives
the Wahoos a balance which could
upset the Duke defense. If captain
MacGregor's defense can stop
Calabrese, the Blue Devil plague
could well be broken.
