Stan Kemp Runs Into Trouble Against Buffalo In Last Saturday's Highly Successful Contest

Quarterback And Flanker For Several Seasons, Kemp Will Switch To Split End In Wake Forest Game

Wake Forest, fresh from a 50-6
mauling by Houston's powerhouse
last week, plays Virginia in
Winston-Salem in the conference's
only intra sectional battle Saturday.
The game marks the first ACC conflict
for the Cavaliers.

After having beaten Buffalo
5-12, the Cavaliers probably hold
an edge over the so-far winless
Deacons, but Coach George Blackburn
warns that "After viewing
films of Wake Forest's three games
to date, the Virginia coaching staff
has come to the conclusion that
Wake is like a snarling mad dog
and is just waiting for its first
victory."

The Deac offense will probably
feature roll-out or option plays
as the big ground-gainers. It now
appears that newcomer Freddie
Summers will lead Wake from the
quarterback spot, and he seems
to have a capable receivers' corps
to save his pitches. End Butch
Henry, however, looks like the
favorite target.

Lockwood Returns

On the other hand there is one
Cavalier who probably won't see a
lot of action, but whose return to
the lineup should cheer most Virginia
fans. Paul Lockwood, once
thought to be out for the season,
is slated to resume duties this
week.

His return may be marred, however,
by the temporary loss of defensive
back Steve Schilke, who is
suffering from a bruised bicep.
Nevertheless, Paul Reeve, Rick
Kotulak, and Paul Klingensmith-all
hurt last week-should see their
normal amounts of play.

Stan Kemp has moved into the
split end position, moving Danny
Fassio to second team flanker. On
the line Jim Willets has replaced
Rick Constantine at the number-one
spot at defensive tackle.

Good Statistics

The attack against Buffalo, in
fact, was so good that the team
now ranks tenth in the nation in
rushing offense with 226.0 yards
per game. Virginia also leads the
ACC in total offense with a 338.5
yards gained each game and in
rushing average (noted above).

If these statistics do not frighten
the Deacs just a bit, then maybe
the mere presence of Gene Arnetic
will. After all Arnetic is currently
tied for the conference lead in points
scored with 24 to his credit. He
will lead a hard-charging group of
Cavaliers onto the field Saturday
night.
