Volatile Spokesman For A Low-Key President

Vice President Spiro T. Agnew's Lear jet appeared in the
cloudy skies over Charlottesville about 4:10 p.m. Tuesday and
landed shortly thereafter at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport.
His plane coasted to the side of a waiting limousine, and upon his
descent from the ramp the Vice President was greeted by Student
Legal Forum President Chuck Robb and Charlottesville Mayor
Francis Fife.

Following a well-planned itinerary, Mr. Robb accompanied
Mr. Agnew back to the Grounds under the escort of numerous
security men from the Secret Service, state police and local
police. Mr. Agnew rested for a short while at Pavilion V, West
Lawn. He then attended a Cocktail Party in his honor at 6 in
Jefferson Hall, where he was greeted by Legal Forum members
and guests. The party was originally scheduled for the garden of
Pavilion V but was forced inside due to rain.

Dinner at the Rotunda was the next item on the agenda,
beginning at about 7:30. Constantly under the watchful eye of
many Secret Service men and other security personnel, Mr.
Agnew and the Legal Forum party then moved to University Hall
for his speech at about 8:30. The final official function was a
reception at the Press Room in University Hall immediately after
the address.

Shortly after 10, the Vice President once again stowed away
in his limousine and hurried back to the airport for the brief return
trip to Washington.
