Washington & Lee
University is the burial place of
General Robert E. Lee, and
basketball coach Verne
Canfield hopes that his
Generals won't get buried in
U-Hall tomorrow night.

The possibilities of a
"murder" are great. Mr.
Canfield said, "We will have to
have an excellent game just to
stay close. Virginia has an
outstanding team," When
queried on what type of game
his team would play, Mr.
Canfield snapped, "The best
we can!"

Although he has four
starters returning from last
year's squad, the General coach
still can't expect a Top Twenty
rating. So far this season, his
only claim to fame is a 64-61
victory over the University of
Pittsburgh's Johnstown branch.

The Generals are led by 6-8
senior center Paul McClure and
6-4 junior forward Skip
Lichtfuss. Lichtfuss scored 17
points and McClure dropped in
11 against Pitt-Johnstown.

Patrolling the backcourt for
the Generals are a pair of 6-0
seniors. Doug Clelan is a
scrappy defender, and Charlie
Strain is the playmaker.

Sophomore forward Guy,
Kerr, star of last year's
freshman team, is the fifth
starter. Although his 6-3 size is
a defensive handicap, Kerr can
score and has plenty of hustle.

Last year, in Lexington, the
Generals fell to the Cavs,
113-80, and a repeat of that
score might be seen tomorrow
night. The Generals are short
and don't have the speed to
make up for their lack of size.

Although Cavalier coach Bill
Givson hasn't named a definite
starting lienup, he will
definitely open with co-captain
Jim Hobgood and Gus "Dr. G"
Gerard at the forwards and
All-American Barry Parkhill at
one guard spot.

Others likely to see action
are center Lanny Stahurski,
forward Bob McKeag, and
guards Al Drummond, Steve
Morris, and Andy Boninti. The
two remaining starters will be
chosen from this group.

Tipoff for the game will be
at 8 p.m. The IV team will hit
the floor at 5:55. The
remaining student tickets must
be picked up before noon
today, when they will go on
public sale.

Sensational first-year man
Wally "The Wonder" Walker,
who suffered a foot injury in
practice last week, will not see
action.

Walker has a hairline
fracture of the fourth
metatarsal bone. That just
means he can't play basketball
for a while. As Mr. Gibson
says. "He has a fracture which
only rest can cure. He hasn't
worked out in about a week."

But even without. The
Wonder, Mr. BP and Co, should
be able to overcome
Washington & Lee. The
physical advantages of the
Cavs are too great for the
Generals to conquer.

However, the Generals will
have a secret weapon in 5-10
Bobbee Lee, a very senior
greyshirt from Arlington,
Va.
