Potent State Offense
Dominates ACC Stats

By FLETCHER THOMPSON

Last Saturday's 35-14
drubbing of the Cavaliers
proved to be a statistical boon
for North Carolina State's
rampant Wolfpack, who
fattened up their leads in
several categories in the latest
edition of the ACC stats.

After eight games State
holds down the top position in
total offense, passing offense,
and scoring offense, while its
talented stable of runners is
second only to UNC.

While it is very easy to sing
the praises of the Raleigh
bunch, the Wahoos are still
mired in the middle of the
figures race. The Cavs show up
fourth in total offense, with
319 yards per outing, well
behind State's 433, and fifth in
defense, giving up 16 more
yards than they gain.

On the individual side, split
end Dave Sullivan continues to
outdistance all other receivers
with 42 receptions, nine better
than his nearest opposition.
Tailback Kent Merritt and
quarterbacks Harrison Davis
and George Allen are the only
other Cavs to be found
anywhere near the top of a
division. Merritt is third in
rushing while Allen and Davis
place third and fourth in
passing, respectively.
