Letters To The Editor
The Aesthetic Question Of Grassing
Having been much aggrieved
by the earlier paving over of
the McIntire Amphitheater for
parking spaces, I must
nonetheless confess to a sense
of bitter amusement at the air
of self-righteousness which
surrounds the current efforts
to have it regrassed.
Permit me an irreverent
question: from the esthetic
point of view (as well as the
conservational and certain
others), what is to choose
between the macadam at the
bottom and the rutted paths
and mudwash along the sides
and top?
No area has been spared the
latter, and it may not be unfair
to suggest that a petition for
restoring the grass of the
Amphitheater might be
received with greater
enthusiasm if there were better
evidence of good faith on the
part of the student body with
respect to preserving the
beauty of the Grounds and the
Lawn.
3000-Foot Cube
After a not-too-protracted
period of intense study, the
undersigned extremely-ad-hoc
committee of graduate
students from the department
of mathematics has concluded
that it would be possible to
place the entire world
population in 3000-foot cube
(allowing a comfortable nine
cubic feet per person).
Furthermore, all things
being considered, we conclude
it would be advisable to do so
as soon as possible.

Publicity
On April 30, Hugh Carter,
President of IFC expressed his
concern that the fraternity
system has received unfair
publicity in relation to a recent
case handled by the Judiciary
Committee.
We would like to assure Mr.
Carter that we are not making
an indictment of the fraternity
system, but of the serious type
of misconduct whether it deals
with a fraternity member or
not, in the fraternity area or
any other area on the Grounds.
Mr. Carter commented that
the IFC has yet to receive any
type of official warning from
the Judiciary Committee. This
is because the IFC has not been
charged with any offense, has
not been found guilty of any
offense and in no way warrants
a warning. We simply ask the
University as a whole to take
notice that the misconduct of
the nature involved in this will
not be tolerated.
Finally Mr. Carter urges that
better coordination between
peoples or organizations
involved be used. The Judiciary
Committee fully endorses this
suggestion.
