The Trial (Wilson Hall;
4:30, 7 and 9 p.m.; Series
ticket) If you're hoping to see
Kafka on the screen you're in
the wrong place, but if sheer
visual bravura, the
breath-taking mastery of a
theatrical style that makes no
attempt to disguise itself,
excites you, then The Trial is
your movie. Here Orson Welles
and Franz Kafka work at
cross-purposes and the result is
certainly not a great movie, but
it is a great display of the
possibilities of a visual style so
lavishly expressive that it
becomes more exciting that the
so-called plot of the film.

King Kong (Paramount;
1,3,5,7, and 9 p.m.; $2) The
world's most beloved giant ape.
Personally the movie appeals to
me because I've got a dirty
mind and I'm intrigued with
the phallic possibilities and
improbabilities of the Empire
State Building. If you haven't
seen a giant ape run amuck in
New York lately here's your
chance. Wednesday and
Thursday.

THURSDAY

Up the Sandbox
(University, 1, 2:40, 4:20, 6,
7:40 and 9:20 p.m.; $2 except
$1 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm.)
Barbra Streissand meets
Woman's Lib and guess who
loses.

Cabaret (Barracks Road;
12:45, 2:50, 4:55, 7 and 9:05
pm.; $2 except $1 from 4:30
to 5:30 p.m.) Some of the best
choreography in a long time
and if Fosse's direction and
Liza Minnelli's acting aren't
too good, the musical numbers
and Joel Grey certainly more
than make up for it.

The Andromeda Strain
(Wilson Hall; 5:30, 8 and
10:30 p.m.; 75 cents or series
ticket)

Bonnie and Clyde (Wilson
Hall; 7 and 9:30 p.m.; $1)

SATURDAY

Bonnie and Clyde (Wilson
Hall; 7 and 9:30 p.m.; $1)

X,Y,Z, (University; 11:30
p.m.; $2) Saturday late show.

SUNDAY

Kansas City Bomber (Ridge;
7:30 p.m.; $1.50) Through
Tuesday.

Monika (Wilson Hall; 5:30,
8 and 10:30 p.m.; 75 cents or
series ticket) Really bad and
silly Bergman. Cheap eroticism
and even cheaper philosophy.
One gets awfully tired of the
nearly endless shots of reeds
blowing in the wind.
