Shades Of Watergate
Speaking of people who perennially
pretend to know all and have the right
answers to everything that goes on
everywhere, we ought not to dispose of too
quickly the recent antics of the familiar
crusader Christian White. Along with a couple
of cohorts, fourth-year College students
Edwin Carlisle and Sandy Williams, Mr. White
was recently discovered tampering with files
at WTJU radio. Of course, he discounted the
incident as "no big thing" claiming that he
was on just another of his "general purpose
wander-ins."
Mr. White and Mr. Carlisle are the people,
remember, who recently appealed the funding
of WTJU as well as some 43 other student
organizations. Although they denied that
their "wander-in" had anything to do with
these appeals, WTJU has implied there
nevertheless exists substantial evidence to
convict these persons on a Judiciary offense.
WTJU has since indicated that it will not press
charges but has asked for an apology from the
three men.
While it may seem that this small scale
Watergate has been blown somewhat
unnecessarily out of proportion, we felt it was
and in the future will continue to feel it our
duty, at least, to expose such incidents no
matter how ludicrous. It is bewildering to
think that such people can imagine themselves
as being above the law in such matters. When
the proper channels for appeal have been
exhausted and the matter lawfully settled,
even the self-righteousness and higher moral
standing of certain individuals does not
warrant a flagrant disregard for order.
If indeed, as they assert, their intentions
were honorable, the three gentlemen should
publicly apologize for what at the least has
been a failure to show the proper respect and
courtesy for others.
