Letters To The Editor
Graduate Council Responsible For Activities
Speaking for a number of
graduate students, we would
like to express our appreciation
for the various activities (i.e.
Rotunda dances, etc.) that the
Graduate Council of the
University Union (organized by
Jane Ikenberry) has sponsored
this year. These activities have
given us opportunities not only
to meet people in our own
schools, but also in other
schools throughout the
University. We have been
impressed by the quality of the
entertainment and the
organization of the events.
We have also found the
Friday Graduate Happy Hours,
sponsored by the Arts and
Sciences Graduate Council
(Tom Mason, president) to be a
welcome relief from our classes
and jobs during the week. It
likewise has been an ideal
opportunity to meet other
graduate students in a relaxed
atmosphere.
With these thoughts in mind,
we would like to suggest that
the Graduate Lounge be open
during the week as a meeting
place and study lounge for all
graduate students. If the
Graduate Councils could not
appropriate sufficient funds to
maintain the Lounge during
the week, we think it would be
possible for the graduate
students to arrange a special
fee or sponsor fund raising
activities to supply funds for
supporting even more graduate
activities and the Graduate
Lounge. There would be a
number of us willing to share
in the care of the Lounge.

Maggie Davis (Grad. A & S)
Rick Murray (Law)
It has come to our attention
that the Graduate Lounge will
be open during the afternoons
for the use of the graduate
students. We would like to
encourage the frequent use of
the Lounge in order to warrant
the extension of its hours into
the evening, and also the
addition of facilities, such as
drink machines, a juke-box,
carpeting, etc.
