Simply Amazing

Chuck Robb has not ceased to amaze us
yet this year. As President of the Law
School's Legal Forum he has attracted a
veritable barrage of great speakers to
Charlottesville.

Just last week at the Ted Kennedy speech
Chuck informed the University Community
that among others, the forum would be
sponsoring speeches this spring by former Supreme
Court Chief Justice Earl Warren, Governor
Nelson Rockefeller, Supreme Court Justice
Thurgood Marshall, and Vice President Spiro
T. Agnew. We were all nearly dumbfounded
at that time with the list he presented us and
with the show he has almost single-handedly
performed.

We were nearly flattened last night,
however, upon learning that Chairman Mao
Tse Tung from the People's Republic of China
will arrive in Charlottesville on Tuesday. Mao
has never left the mainland before in his
entire 111 years and for Chuck Robb to be the
one who brought this about is simply
stupefying, to say the least.

Early this morning Mr. Robb revealed to
us his plans to bring people out of the past
whom the Legal Forum missed in previous
years, for one-time-only, special, repeat
performances. Among those who have
tentatively accepted this offer are William
Jennings Bryan with his famous "Cross of
Gold" speech; Henry VIII with a
compendium of his favorite Bible readings;
Marie Antoinette with her tips from Julia
Child on how to make cake and Pontius
Pilate with a brief talk concerning the merits
of keeping one's hands clean. Jesus Christ is
also scheduled for a return performance, but a
date has yet to be set.

People have said that because Chuck Robb
is on the inside he can easily arrange speakers
like this. But absolutely no one has an
explanation for this latest coup which he has
arranged. All we can say is amazing... simply
amazing.
