Founded in 1966 when the
coffeehouse craze reached its peak,
the Prism has provided

years.

To cover the cost of a new
sound system, the Prism has raised
its price of admission from 50 to 75
cents.

night at 8 p.m., with music starting
at 9:30 p.m., the coffeehouse
usually keeps its doors open until 2
a.m.

The Prism also will feature this
fall the "Tom Doran Co-op Shop"
in the back room, named after a
former University student arrested
two years ago during the student
strike.

The Solidarity Bookshop, in the
front of the coffeehouse, will sell
books and literature pertaining to
racism, sexism, schools and
workers.

While the Prism presents paid
performers on weekends, the
coffeehouse also sponsors jam
sessions for new and experienced
musicians on Wednesday nights.

The Prism's steering committee
is continually seeking variety and
vitality in its new performers, and
the coffeehouse offers a standing
invitation to new performers to
come to the Rugby Road shop for
auditions. Non-performers who
wish to serve as staff workers also
are invited to contact the steering
committee at the Prism.
