Many authorities on the Honor
System have expounded in detail
on the fantastic success of this
system. Excerpts from Mr. Wood's
traditional address to first-year men
on the Honor Code is printed in
this issue.

The spirit of honor may perhaps
best be seen in an address given to
entering students in 1961 by
Alumnus Mortimer Caplin.

He said "The heart of the Honor
System is student responsibility for
its operation and complete
divorcement of faculty
participation. This is your system,
your code of living, for all your
activities at the University. Anyone
who breaches this system is guilty
of an indignity not only to the
University but to each of the
students comprising the University
society. With the privilege of living
in an honorable society goes the
duty of maintaining its integrity."
