Defend Nat'l Title

Stickmen Good Again

Three All-Americans are
gone from last year's Lacrosse
team which defeated Johns Hopkins
and Navy for the National title,
but seven starters return to
form the nucleus of a squad
which should have a good
chance to repeat as national
champions.

Leading scorer Tom Duquette
(24 goals, 23 assists)
will team with co-captain may
Connor (16 goals, 19 assists)
and Rick Beach (23 goals, one
assist) to give the Cavaliers an
experienced attack that should
be among the most potent in
the country. First year-men
Chip Barker and John Eppler,
both Baltimorians, should be
strong backup men on attack.

Rebuilding the midfield should
be the major for Coach Glen
Theil in his second year as head
coach. are first team
All-American Jun oller and
second team All-American Charles
Rullman, which leaves only
co-captain bby Prout from last
year's first Midfield. The entire
second midfield return, however,
led by honorable mention
All-American Pete Eldridge (17
goals, four assists), Dick Prout and
George Turner.

First string All-American Doug
Hilbert is gone from last year's
defense, but Tom Dawes and Bruce
Mangels returns with a year's experience
to form a solid Nucleus.
Tom Schildwatcher, last year's top
reserve, and first year-man Boo
Smith should fight for the remaining
spot, with Schildwatcher
probably getting the no according
to Mr. Theil.

Al Hirsh, plagued last year at
times by inexperience, should hold
down the goalie job capably.

For the first time there will be
an official NCAA lacrosse championship
to decide the national title
this year, instead of the old system
of deciding by voting. The Cavaliers
should find themselves in the thick
of the national fight.
