Reeves-to-Alvarez combination
lacked its usual scoring punch, but
the Gators won 21 to 19.

Ninth-ranked Nebraska
overpowered Wake Forest and
rolled to a 36 to 12 win.

Virginia's four non-conference
foes were 2-2 in Saturday's action,
VMI ended a twelve game losing
streak by beating Furman, and
Army blanked Holy Cross 26-0.
William and Mary was over-run by a
powerful West Virginia offense
43-7, and Colgate was smothered
by Navy's explosive offense 48-22.

In other games, Stanford raced
to a 27-0 first-half lead on the arm
of Jim Plunkett and then held on
for a 34-28 upset over
fourth-ranked Arkansas.

Nationally ranked Southern
California poured it on Alabama to
the tune of 42-21, UCLA got by
Oregon State 14-9; Texas Tech
beat Tulane 21-14; Air Force
smashed Idaho 45-7; Kansas
outscored Washington State 48-31;
Oklahoma beat SMU 28-11; and
Missouri wrecked Baylor 38-0.
