Football Analysis

booted field goals of 30 and 35
yards, and averaged 45.5 yards on
two punts. Kent Merritt picked up
'89 yards on slippery turf. The
defense looked good at times.

Injuries hurt the Cavaliers. Gary
Helman missed the whole second
half with a shoulder injury, and Jim
Lacey saw little action because of a
pulled hamstring.

No Excuses!

Mr. Lawrence, however, refused
to make excuses for the
performance. "We should have been
able to accept five penalties and
three or four fumbles and still win.
But we lost, so I can't say I liked
anything I saw out there."

Discouraged? "Heck yes. I hate
lose." What about Michigan (This
week's opponent in the nation's top
ten)? "None of you (reporters) will
believe me, but we'll get them. I
guess that we really blew this, but
I've got ten more chances.....I
wonder that you'll say when we
win that one (Michigan)."
