Grapplers Good Bet
To Take ACC Title

Virginia's wrestling outlook
is the brightest in the team's
history, as the entire starting
lineup returns from last year's
team which came within three
points of the ACC tournament
title, and became the first team
in ACC history to defeat Maryland
in a dual meet.

Three defending ACC
Champions and five runners-up
in their weight divisions will
give the nucleus of the team
which will try to dump the
Terps; who have won the conference
title for sixteen straight
years.

Second year-men Kim Hatcher,
at 118 pounds, and Shelley
Zablow, at 134, and fourth
year-man and co-captain John
Pogues, at 142, will be defending
the championships they
won last year, while
126-pounder John Pitas,
150-pounder Wayne Hoffman,
158-pounder Lynn Housner,
177-pounder and co-captain
Moore, and 190-pounder Paul
Boehm will seek to improve on last
year's second place tournament finishes.
The other two returning starters,
167-pounder Kevin Michaels,
and Heavyweight Bill Farrell won
the consolation rounds in the tourney.

A large group of first year-men
is expected to turn out when practice
begins, and although Coach
George Edwards is not expected to
rely on first year-men as much this
year as he did last when six newcomers
broke into the starting
lineup, Mr. Edwards is quick to
point out that no positions are
locked up, and that some of the
first year-men, as well as some of
last year's non-starters, are capable
of breaking into the lineup.

Tennessee state champ Bill
Glacock is one of the promising
first year-men, along with Boo
Smith, a Maryland champion. Other
newcomers mentioned by Edwards
for the upcoming season are Don
Drew, Fenton Priest, Dennis Bittenbender,
Robert Fowler. John
and footballers John ek-
hart and Tom Howard.

Mr. Edwards has scheduled the
first meeting of his team for 7 p.m.
on Monday Sept. 24 at Memorial
Gym. Informal workouts will start
in the fall.
