Legend Has It
In keeping with its practice of
espousing University tradition and
legend, the College Topics has
uncovered a dusty, little known legend
that has particular relevance to this
weekend. It seems the University
community is in for a rare treat this
Openings Weekend.
Legend has it that when a full moon
shines on a big weekend there is a very
subtle, but effective, measure by which
a gentleman can determine whether his
date is still chaste. The inquisitive
Cavalier simply takes his date for a
leisurely stroll up the Lawn, beginning
at the statue of Homer and walking
toward the Rotunda. It is important
that while walking the gentleman
should walk to his date's
left; conversation should be kept to a
minimum so that the beauty of the
environment can be appreciated. As
the couple approaches the statues of
Jefferson on their left and Washington
on their right they may notice some
unusual excitement on the parts of our
founder and his colleague. If, in fact,
the young lady maintains her virginity
Jefferson will sit, Washington will
stand, and they will nod at each other.
If, however, the belle's status is
otherwise, no reaction will be
observed.
