Union Elects Ismay, Thompson, Berkeley
By ROSEMARY COONEY
Fourth-year man Kip
Thompson was elected
tri-chairman and spokesman of
the University Union in
elections held last week.
Third-year man Richard
Berkeley and second-year man
John Ismay were chosen as
tri-chairmen for committees.
The new offices enacted by
a Union constitutional revision
allow for a policy-making
board which will consist of an
official Union spokesman to
deal with University officials as
well as the two committee
tri-chairmen who will each
assume responsibility for half
of the Union's eight standing
committees.
Previously, the tri-chairmen
shared equal authority and
responsibilities.
According to Mr. Ismay,
Mr. Thompson's main task will
be to find funds to improve the
Union and its range of events
as well as to act as its
spokesman.

When asked about the
tri-chaimen's plans for next
year's activities, Mr. Ismay
stated, "We haven't met
formally yet, so until we do it
would be impossible to specify
our definite plans."
He added, "However, we
are planning to continue many
of our past activities. We also
have several ideas to expand
the range of the Union's
present scope."
The new tri-chairman also
hopes to increase membership
in the Union.
"So far," he said, "we have
a relatively small membership
in comparison to the size of
the University."
