University of Virginia Library

Economics Fund
Initiates Library

A new graduate economics library has
been established at the University in
honor of Tipton R. Snavely, professor
emeritus of economics.

Students, colleagues and friends of Mr.
Snavely have contributed funds to buy
books and scholarly journals for the T. R.
Snavely Graduate Economics Library.
The department library, supported entirely by
contributions, will serve both graduate students
and faculty.

Mr. Snavely, who was the first person to
receive a Ph.D. in economics from the
University, taught economics here from 1918
until his retirement in 1961 and was chairman
of the department for more than 30 years.

He is a specialist in public finance and the
history of economic thought and is the author
of "The Taxation of Negroes in Virginia" and
"State Grants-in-Aid in Virginia."
