Poet Emmanuel
Speaks Tonight
On Metaphysics

French poet Pierre Emmanuel
will give a public lecture in
French at 8:15 p.m. tonight in
the McGregor room of Alderman
Library.

His topic will be "Metaphysical
Tendencies in Contemporary
French Poetry."

Pierre Emmanuel is the pseudonym
taken after World War
II by Noel Mathieu, considered
to be a leading poet of the
Resistance. Writing in a versatile
style which ranges from free
verse to sonnets, he has, since
1947, espoused the mission of
the Christian poet whose works
have a social purpose.

He received the "Grand Prizo"
in poetry from the French Academy
in 1963 and in recent years
has been director of the English
language services of the French
National Radio and Television
Network.

The lecture is presented by the
University's department of romance
languages.
