Supervisors Approve
'Colonial Village'

The Albemarle County
Board of Supervisors has
approved the construction of a
colonial village of craft shops
near Michie Tavern Museum on
Va. Rt. 53.

The village will include
shops for leather crafts,
weaving, pottery, soap and
candle making and carpentry
Also planned are silversmith
and blacksmith shops

Advertisements Should Comply

No advertisements may be
displayed except to establish
entrances to the site and to
identify the facilities
Permissible   advertisements
should comply to the Board's
requirements and reflect 18th
century design.

The site must include
exterior lighting for the series
of stores. The exterior of the
shops must reflect 18th
century architecture.

Board Reserved Approval

The Board reserved final
approval of plans for the village
and stipulated several
conditions for its construction
and operation.

The conditions also require
a deceleration lane onto the
location and disallow any
overhead utilities

The center will be built by
the Michie Tavern Corporation
under the direction of Joseph
Conte
