Arrest In

A first-year student was
arrested yesterday afternoon in
Page dormitory for the alleged
distribution of marijuana.

The arrest was made at
4:25 p.m. by University
security officers and an officer
from the State Police
Department.

News of the arrest was not
obtained until late last night.

The charges against the
student were lodged in
Richmond, where the activity
allegedly took place. After
the arrest the Charlottesville
Police Department took charge
of the youth, according to an
informed source.

It is not known what the
exact wording of the warrant
is. W. Wade Bromwell, Security
Department director, and Rea
G. Houchens, chief of Security
Police, were not available for
comment last night.

When contacted, the
Charlottesville Police
Department also refused to
make a statement. It is not
known where the student is
being held.
