Youth Sponsor 'Walk For Development'
Charlottesville area youth will sponsor
the Charlottesville Walk for Development
Saturday, April 22.
Registration for the 20-mile Hike
against Hunger starts at 6:30 a.m., and
the walk will begin at 7:30 a.m. from the
Amphitheatre.
Hikers will walk to raise money for
two self-help anti-hunger programs: an
Opportunities Industrialization Center
job and attitudinal training center in
Charlottesville and an emergency relief
program in Bangladesh and India.
Each hiker must be sponsored by an
individual, business or group pledged to
pay a certain amount for each mile
walked. Participants may have as many
sponsors as they wish.
WTJU Officers
The WTJU-FM Broadcasting
Association announced that
second-year man Joseph Ruffini will
succeed Terri Towe as President for the
coming year.
Succeeding Douglas McLaughlin,
third-year man Joe Bourdow, formerly
program director, was elected station
manager in the annual election of
officers. Third-year man Michael Leech
assumed Mr. Bourdow's former
responsibilities as the Association
program director.
Second-year man David Silvers was
re-elected finance director.
Earth Day Concert
The Earth Day celebration concert,
originally scheduled for Saturday in
McIntire Park, will be Sunday in the
Lile-Maupin Glen as announced by the
Charlottesville Friends of the Earth.
Featuring Cradle, Possum's Delight,
Triality, Green County Green, Cedar Hill,
Hawky Mountain Express and others, will
be free and will include recycling
activities.
A Washington Ecology Center
representative, who has investigated
Potomac River pollutants and has
recently completed a book on bicycling,
will talk in addition to the already
announced speakers.
Mock Primary
Incorrectly printed in yesterday's
Cavalier Daily, Democratic
Representative Shirley Chisholm won 134
votes in the University-wide mock
presidential primary Tuesday and
Wednesday. Conservative John Ashbrook
won 6.1 per cent of the Republican vote.
