Busing Begins March 15

The temporary busing system planned
by the Student Council in an effort to
relieve the parking problems on the
Grounds will begin service on March 15.

Designed to evaluate the potential
worth of such a system on a permanent
basis, the service will employ two buses,
which will run for ten hours a day.

From 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday
through Friday, the buses will provide
service at each stop along the route four
times each hour. They will arrive at the
corner of McCormick and Newcomb
Roads at 20 minutes before the hour and also
at 10 minutes before the hour. They will then
return 10 minutes and at 20 minutes past the
hour.

By arriving shortly before and shortly after
the hour, the buses are expected to
accommodate the maximum demand for
student transportation.

Using the University Hall parking lot as a
starting point, where a large amount of parking
space is available, the buses will proceed from
there along Alderman. Road and then along
McCormick Road. They will then travel past
Newcomb Hall and up University Avenue past
the Corner.

Turning down Jefferson Park Avenue, the
buses will pass the hospital and the street
entrance to New Cabell Hall, and then go up
Stadium Road and past the Alderman Road
dormitories, returning to University Hall.

The system will thus provide service to the
Alderman and McCormick Road dorms, the
classroom buildings, Newcomb Hall, and the
Corner.

In order to partially defray operating
expenses, students will be charged 10 cents a
ride.

The Student Council has rented the buses
from the Yellow Transit Company of
Charlottesville for one month.
