Science Conference Planned

The University and the National
Science Foundation will cosponsor a
conference designed to bring high school
principals up to date on developments in
science education this summer.

Some 30 principals from southeastern and
mid-Atlantic states are expected to attend the
June 20-July 2 sessions directed by Ertle
Thompson, professor of education.

During the conference, representatives from
major curriculum projects will meet with the
principals to examine the effectiveness of
recent developments in science education and
to explore ways national curriculum projects
can be used by local school districts without
discouraging local curriculum innovations.

Principals also will participate in laboratory
experiments and discussions of subject material
to illustrate the inquiry approach in science
teaching.

Programs and topics to be discussed include
multi-media instruction and computer-assisted
instruction in science and mathematics; new
directions in mathematics education:
environmental science and supervisory and
administrative problems in curriculum
development and implementation.
