Jackson Speaks
On Black Poetry

An authority on Black American poetry will
speak at the University tonight at 8 p.m.

Blyden Jackson, professor of English at the
University of North Carolina, will discuss "The
Harlem Renaissance of the 1920's". Mr.
Jackson attended Wilberforce University as an
undergraduate and received his M.A. and Ph.D.
degrees from the University of Michigan. He has
taught at Fisk University and Southern
University where he was dean of the graduate
school.

A lecturer for the National Council of
Teachers of English, Mr. Jackson has served as
an associate editor of the "College Language
Association Journal" and as book review editor
of "Phylon", a journal of race and culture
founded by W.E.B. DuBois.

The lecture, which is sponsored by the
English department and is open to the public,
will be held at 8 p.m. in room 301 of Wilson
Hall.
