School Of Commerce To Host
Virginia Accounting Symposium
Virginia accounting educators will
meet today at the University for one of
50 accounting symposium being held
throughout the nation.
Held at the University's McIntire
School of Commerce, the one-day
conference is sponsored by the
international certified public accounting
firm of Haskins and Sells to
commemorate the firm's 75th anniversary.
More than 40 accounting educators from 14
Virginia colleges and universities are expected
to attend the symposium.
It is aimed, says the firm, at providing an
education in the 1960's and to assist curriculum
planning for the '70's."
Among issues scheduled for discussion is the
recommendation that five years of college
study plus successful completion of the
certified public accountant's exam should be
the only requirements for the CPA certificate.
Other discussions will center around the
adaptation of new and effective teaching
methods to the field of accounting and the
integration of accounting education with such
disciplines as behavioral and computer sciences.
Led by members of the commerce faculty,
the discussions will be included in a summary
report to be prepared and published by Haskins
and Sells.
