Jefferson Party Nominates King, Freeman For Council
Virginia Progressive Party Selects Potler, Chabot

The Jefferson Party nominated its
candidates for the special Student Council
election this November at its meeting
in Wilson Hall Wednesday night.

The Jefferson Party candidates are
Tom King, a third yearman from the
College and Al Freeman, also a third
yearman from the College.

These candidates will vie for the two vacant
seats on Council, one being that of Tony
Sherman, the other is the newly created position
which allows the College an additional
representative.

Also at the meeting, the party endorsed the
Student Code of Conduct, which was drawn up
by a committee comprised of students and
members of the Board of Visitors.

The Jefferson Party passed a resolution
that put their party on record against the
referendum being sought by the Union of
University Students. This referendum calls for a
new code of conduct to be drawn up entirely
by students and subject to approval by all
students of the University.

Andrew Potler And Phil Chabot Were Nominated As Election Representatives

The Virginia Progressive Party met in
Newcomb Hall Wednesday night to nominate
candidates for the upcoming special
Student Council election in November.

The candidates chosen were Andrew
Potler, a third year man, and Phil Chabot,
a second yearman.

Both candidates are from the College
and will compete for the vacancy created by
Tony Sherman's resignation and the newly
created seat which allows the College more
representation on Council.

At the same meeting the VPP passed a
resolution endorsing the referendum proposed
by the Union of University Students by which
the Union hopes to change the recently adopted Student Conduct Code.

The party also passes a resolution expressing
the party's indignation over the indictment of
the 25 persons at Kent State University as a
result of an investigation of the killings there
last spring.

Both motions passed unanimously.

Jeff Kirsch, president of the VPP, urged the
party members to "keep the party an active and
informed organization by attending Student
Council meetings and working for Council
committees."
