VCHR Speakers To Discuss Black Separatism

The 1970 Annual Membership meeting
of the Virginia Council on Human
Relations begins today and will continue
through tomorrow in Newcomb Hall.

Speakers at the meeting will discuss
"Black Separatism, Law and Order, and
Us - A New Strategy." Tonight's
keynote speaker is Rev. James Bevil, now
executive director of "A Man Making a Nation"
in Baltimore.

He is a former director of Direct Non-Violent
Action for the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference and was a close
associate of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Following his speech on "Black Separatism
and What it Means to Reconvert," the
participants will break up into groups to discuss,
the speech.

Beginning at 9:15 tomorrow morning the
meeting will commence with speeches by Ruth
Harvey Charity, a Danville lawyer who ran for
U.S. Congressman, and John Lowe of
Charlottesville.

Their speeches on "Law and Order for
Underdogs, the Minorities, and the Disestablished:
A Look at Law and Order from the
Bottom," will be followed by more discussion
groups.

University students are invited to participate
in the meeting and may find information at the
registration table in Newcomb Hall after 5:45
p.m. today.

The meeting is being co-sponsored by the
Martin Luther King, Jr. Chapter of the Virginia
Council on Human Relations and the Charlottesville-Albemarle
Chapter.
