Speech Contest
Open To All

The "Ancient and Most Honorable
Jefferson Society" will once again present
its annual Moomaw Oratorical Contest in
Jefferson Hall on the West Range, Friday,
March 13, at 8 p.m.

The contest will consist of each
entrant giving a ten minute speech on any
topic of his choice. It is suggested that the
speeches be of general interest since the
audience will be a varied one.

Applications for the contest may be
obtained at Room No. 7, West Lawn or at the
Newcomb Hall desk. They must be completed
and returned to 7 West Lawn by 5 p.m.,
Wednesday, March 11.

The speeches will be judged by three
members of the University community, either
faculty or administration. Prizes will be
awarded for first, second and third places.

Any questions concerning the contest may
be directed to any officer of the Jefferson
Society, and in particular to the Historian,
Dave Llewellyn at 295-3038.

Speech topics in the past have ranged from
such dubious topics as the James Bond
mystique, capital punishment, Jefferson and his
religion, Alexander Pope, Jefferson and
Hamilton, and even a dramatic presentation in
which the speaker pretended to be Adolf
Ikeman.

Students entering the contest are reminded
that they should appear at Jefferson Hall by
7:45 in order that the order of the speakers be
arranged.
