Literary Magazine Slated
For Engineering School
A new literary magazine, The
Windlass, will appear on the Grounds this
spring. Put out by the students in the
School of Engineering, the magazine will
be published quarterly, and distributed
free at the University, with copies being
sent to other engineering schools.
The scope of the new publication will be the
social implication of engineering technology,
but will also include articles on topics of
general interest to the University community.
The editor-in-chief, Tom Pauling, hopes that
"the magazine will exhibit a quality in style
unlike any publication our school has undertaken
in the past."
The first issue of the quarterly magazine will
appear sometime in early spring, due mainly to
a four-week printing delay. With free distribution,
the editors hope that the bulk of the cost
can be offset by advertising revenue, although
small allocations have been received from the
Student Council and the Engineering Council.
While most of its content is as yet
unplanned, an article in the upcoming issue is
an inside report on the Apollo Projects from a
summer employee of N.A.S.A. Editor Pauling
emphasized that many positions on the staff are
open, and new workers are welcome.
He urged interested students to attend the
staff meeting tonight at 7:30 in room A-207 of
Thornton Hall. He stated that he feels "to
attain the desired quality in content, a staff of
at least twenty-five interested students is
required."
