Lychnos Society Selects
32 New Women Members

Thirty-two new members of the
Lychnos Society, an honor society
for women, were elected at the
organization's March meeting, and
their names have been released by
Roy Land, president of the society.

The Lychnos Society, founded
in 1929, exists to recognize and
encourage in women students of
the University excellence in scholarship,
qualities leadership, and
continuing contributions to the life
and progress of the University.

The new members are: Mrs.
Susan Piepho, Department of
Chemistry; Joan J. Brewer and
Sherrie Stanton, Classics; Mrs.
Evelyn Marr Glazier, Economics.

Nance E. Artis, Lynn Belcher,
Mrs. Miriam Birdwhistell, Mary
Jane Elia, Maryanne Miker, Lee
Bowman Porach, Susan Robbins
Schrum, and Mrs. Janet S. Wilkinson,
Education.

Also, Judith Ann Guthrow and
Mrs. Cheryl G. Tropf, Engineering;
Guinevera Nance, Charlotte H.
Oberg, and Frederica L. Rosenberg,
English.

Chosen from the Department of
German and Slavic Languages were
Mrs. Martha B. Alden and Susan
Burt. Susan Finsen and Mrs. Ellen
Hampton were chosen from the
Department of Government and
Foreign Affairs.

Mrs. Joan P. Bines, Valerie J.
Conner, Carolyn D. Yandle are
from the History Department, and
Barbara Cobb, Deborah Dean, Jane
Ireland, and Kathleen O'Brien are
from the Nursing school.

Karen Fisen was chosen from
the Philosophy Department, while
Mrs. Shirely S. Friedman,
Thomas, and Mrs. Elizabeth B.
Zimmerman were elected from the
Romance Languages.
