Black Student Group Promises
'More Than Verbal Expressions'
A spokesman for the Black
Students for Freedom announced
yesterday that his group would
embark upon a course of action
involving "more than verbal expressions."
The spokesman, George
Taylor, said that the group, which
is unrecognized by the University
administration, has approximately
thirty-five members.
The statement released by the
group reads as follows:
"The Black Students for Freedom
of the University of Virginia
feel it is necessary at this time to
announce their intentions to articulate
more specifically and more
forcefully the changes necessary to
sincerely offset the racial and moral
imbalance which now exists here.
We are sincerely interested in
helping the University overcome its
inherent sickness."
Referring to the student Coalition
and the recent demonstrations
Mr. Taylor said, "We have
gone through those channels last
year." The feeling of the group is
apparently that the usual means of
effecting change within the University
structure have now become
"Futile," he said.
"We are not opposed to the
Coalition," said Mr. Taylor, "but
rather we feel that our commitment
is deeper than theirs. We are going
to restate our grievances, and in the
next several weeks we will determine
what action we might take."
