Interviews Scheduled
For Jefferson Society

Interviews for membership in
the Jefferson Literary and Debating
Society, the oldest organization
on the Grounds, will be held
from Monday, April 22, through
Thursday, April 25.

Held in Jefferson Hall from 2
to 5 in the afternoon, the interviews
will be held by the society
that has been a center for student
intellectual activities, frequent debaucheries,
and a forum for
speakers of renown.

Debating extemporizing, and
occasional partying are the primary
activities of the Hall. During
the interviews, the members
are looking for students who are
interested in these activities. Potential
probationaries must display
a proficiency in public
speaking and general intelligence.

Jefferson Hall is the home of
the Society, as it was founded in
1825. Prominent past members
of the Hall include Jeb Stuart,
Edgar Allan Poe, Woodrow Wilson
and William Halsey.

Each semester the Jefferson Society
promotes a series of speakers
which in the preceding years
has featured men like Ernest
Hemingway, William Faulkner,
and Ghanan Ambassador Kofl.
