Lily Dabney
Dies At Home

Lily Heth Davis Dabney
died at her home on Rugby
Road March 28. She was 98.

She was the widow of R.
Heath Dabney, a member of
the University faculty for
nearly half a century. Mr.
Dabney, who died in 1947,
served as dean of the
department of graduate studies
from 1904 to 1923. He was
also head of the history
department and was a
professor of history and
economics. He retired from the
faculty in 1938.

Mrs. Dabney was born in
Richmond and was closely
associated all her life with the
University. She recently
established with her own
donations the R. Heath
Dabney Scholarship in history.

She was a collateral
descendant of Thomas
Jefferson, being directly
descended from his sister,
Martha.
