Psychoanalyst R.D. Liang To Discuss
Investigations Of Schizophrene Disorders
By RICK KNIESLER
Ronald David Liang, noted
psychiatrist and the author of
Knots and The Politics of
Experience will speak on Dec.
R. D. Liang: Psychoanalyst And Psychiatrist
Auditorium.
From the position of both a
psychoanalyst and a
psychiatrist, Dr. Liang has been
concerned with extreme
disturbances in human
communication. This field of
research also includes
investigation into the varieties
of human experience and the
effects of different kinds of
families.
Schizophrenia has been his
main concern; early writings
are based on observations made
from his work in mental
institutions. He treats
schizophrenia, not as a disease
in isolation from family and
friends, but as a possible
"breakthrough into a new
inner life".
A society which is both
wrong and wrongheaded, is one
that places schizophrenia as a
label on some of its more
difficult members, is a
contention of Dr. Liang.
His writings appeal to many
people, including the young,
since he suggests that madness
is an understandable response
to the evils of contemporary
life.
In private life, Dr. Liang is a
student of Yoga, and does
much of his work in darkness
and silence.
