News-In-Brief

Faculty Sets Reading Days

Reading days this semester
are scheduled from May 15
through May 21. The faculty
has provided for this period of
no more than five class days at
the end of each semester for
thorough review and
independent study by students.

Each department of the
College is allowed to determine
its own policy with an
understanding of the five day
limit. No make-up quizzes or
final exams are to be given
during this time.

BSA Elections

Black Student Alliance
elections will be held on
Friday, May 4, from 8 a.m.
until 6 p.m. Ballot Boxes will
be located on the fourth floor
of Cabell Hall and on the
second floor of Newcomb
Hall.

Council Volunteers

Student Council has
announced that it needs help
during the summer months,
Any student who would like to
work on Council summer
activities may sign up at
Council offices, fourth floor
Newcomb Hall, or call Larry
Sabato at 924-3454.

Book Sale

The Friends of the Library
will hold their 8th annual Book
Sale today and Friday from
9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Gordon
Ave. Branch Library. All
books, magazines, and records
will be 10 cents.

Donations of usable books
are being accepted at any
branch or bookmobile of the
Jefferson-Madison Regional
Library and will be accepted
during the Book Sale.

Raven Awards

The Raven Society will
present its annual awards
tonight to former
Virginia Sen. William B. Spong,
Robert J. Harris, former Dean
of the College of Arts and
Sciences, and E. Fontaine
Broun a 1932 alumnus of the
Law school.

Awards are "conferred in
recognition of excellence in
service to the University and of
outstanding contributions to
the interest constituting the
life of the institution,"
according to Jack Sperling,
president of the society.

Students receiving the
award are third-year Law
student and president of the
Student Legal Forum, Charles
S. Robb, fourth-year
Education student Barry
Parkhill, and fourth-year
College student, Gordon
Peerman, College president.

Big-Brother Picnic

Madison Hall is sponsoring
a Big-Brother Big-Sister picnic
this Saturday at 1 p.m. at the
farm of Charles Carr on
Barracks Road.

In the event of rain,
the picnic will be held at the
same time and place this
Sunday.
