Police Jail Student
For Drug Distribution

By PAT GRANEY

First-year student Linn D.
Banks, 19, arrested Wednesday
afternoon at Page House on
four felony drug distribution
charges is reportedly being
held in a Richmond jail on
$10,000 bond.

The Richmond native was
taken into custody at 4:25
p.m. in the doorway of Page
House by a University security
officer and State Police
Investigator Herbert H.
Chambers, according to Rea G.
Houchens, University police
chief. Mr. Banks was then
taken to the Charlottesville
Police Station for processing
and to Richmond later that
evening.

The charges, according to
Mr. Chambers, were related to
the alleged distribution of
marijuana in Richmond last
May. He indicated that the
arrest followed a series of drug
related arrests made in the
Richmond area.

Charlottesville Police Chief
John DeK. Bowen said the
arrest had nothing to do with
drug activity on the Grounds.

Student Legal Advisor Ted
Hogshire indicated that Mr.
Banks would probably retain a
Richmond lawyer.

This marks the second
drug-related arrest on the
Grounds since September. Five
students were arrested in
Maupin Dormitory on Nov. 2
an were later released under
one-year probationary
guidance.
